Groups of pupils:
We want to meet the need of all pupils, whatever their needs, to help them become the best that they can be. This can be in the form of additional help in class, emotional and behavioural support or extra resources.
Free School Meals Pupils
We receive a Pupil Development Grant from the Welsh Government each year to improve the prospects of pupils who may need extra support with their learning. This can be from ensuring that they have equal access to I.T. equipment to help with things like homework to our Pastoral Officer who can help with grants or practical support. Please see our Pupil Development Grant for further details.
English as an Additional Language
We work closely with the Local Authority to monitor and support any pupils who enter school with English as a second language. There is no reason, that with the right support, they shouldn’t achieve as well as other pupils.
Emotional and Behavioural
Everyone needs some emotional support at times. We have our Pastoral Officer and our ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) who can provide support and can refer on to other agencies and professionals.
Additional Learning Needs
We monitor and assess pupils closely. Pupils who need additional learning support receive it in various ways. The main point of delivery is in class with differentiated and targeted teaching. Some pupils may need an Individual Educational Plan. This is completed in partnership with parents. The school works closely with outside agencies and professionals to ensure the best provision for each child.
More Able and Talented
As with Additional Learning Needs, the bulk of provision is in class with differentiated and targeted teaching. Teachers are focused on providing challenge and high expectations. There are opportunities for pupils to participate in More Able and Talented events.
Ministry of Defence Pupils
Our school has benefitted from a MOD grant to meet the specific needs of the children of military or ex-military personnel. Children from military families can have heightened anxiety due to their parents’ being deployed on active service for example, or they may need extra help with their academic work if they have moved schools several times. Our Pastoral Officer and our ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) can provide support and can refer on to other agencies and professionals. With the grant money, we have been able to provide a quiet, safe space in the playground and purchased additional I.T. equipment to help with school work. If you have any links to the military and feel your child would benefit from some additional help, please let us know.
