Class 3JS

3JS Visit Pembrokeshire Archives.

The class had a very enjoyable morning looking at old maps of Neyland.  They saw Colonel Mudge’s  map of 1819 which shows that Neyland was just a few homes and then compared that with the 1908 OS map which is very detailed showing how Neyland had grown and had a  railway station, railway lines, the South Wales Hotel  and cattle sheds!

The children were fascinated to go into the temperature controlled room where documents are stored. Conservation of documents is also done here and a fascinating talk was given by the Conservator to the children who told them that when documents are given to the archives, they are first quarantined in case any insects come in with them!  I think there are some budding Conservators in the class and definitely young historians!

A big thank you to Ms Orr and her staff for all the time they took to get documents ready and for giving the children such an enjoyable time.

Neyland, A Railway Town.

Class 3JS held their Spring Term Showcase on Tuesday 19th March 2019 where they showed parents and friends their term's work based on the history of Neyland.  Part of the work was using modern computer skills to help find out about the past where the children made and used databases from some of the censuses from the 1800s.  Well done to all the children.

Working together to make a Collage after looking at photos of when Neyland had it's own railway.

3JS - Topic Immersion Day

Our new topic for the Spring Term 2019 is 'Neyland, A Railway Town'.  We started the topic off by taking a walk around the town visiting places which were important during the Victorian period when the railway originally came to Neyland.

The children were interested in what we saw and are looking forward to learning more about the history of our town.  They came up with lots of questions and have decided on how they want to continue the work.

3JS Showcase Held on Thursday 29th November 2018
